Why is post-insulation quality important?
Proper post-insulation of uninsulated cavity walls can reduce energy losses — depending on the composition of the original façade and the thermal resistance of the insulation product used — by a factor of 2 to 3.
This significantly improves energy performance and living comfort.
What does the quality framework mean in practice?
The UBAtc (Belgian Union for Technical Approval in Construction) and BCCA have grouped three types of requirements within this quality framework in order to strengthen confidence in the quality of retrofit insulation in cavity walls:
- Products and systems must be fit for use
- Contractors must pass a theoretical examination.
- Contractors must carry out the work on site in accordance with best practice.
- Companies participating in the quality framework may issue a declaration of conformity for cavity wall insulation.
This declaration confirms the use of insulation systems with technical approval and that the work has been carried out by certified personnel in accordance with Technical Specification STS 71-1.

Who can join the quality framework post-insulation for cavity walls?
Construction companies that use products with technical approval (ATG) and certification and that enter into an agreement with BCCA to comply with the regulations of the quality framework post-insulation for cavity walls.
